Overview

This original RHD UK registered Jaguar E Type Mk 1, one of the last Mk1 cars to be built, was purchased in England in 2009 and transported to Southern Spain to be to be totally restored in the WHR workshop. (Williams Harries Restorations).

See below details of the depth of the restoration of this car where over £88,000 has been spent.

The body of the car was completely rebuilt from the waist down, including new bonnet, doors and all lower panels.

2. Labour Costs from 2009 to 2011

Costs incurred, including labour, spare parts, rewiring the loom, bare metal respray, the total re upholstering in the finest Spanish red leather and miscellaneous costs, were in excess of £57,000

3 Brief points of Interest of rebuild and restoration from 2009

3.1 Bare metal repaint in dark blue to concours condition this includes the engine compartment, the inside of the car and under the bonnet. The body was then fully under sealed and all cavities and exposed parts wax oiled.

3.2 Total Engine rebuild new Cylinder liners, Crankshaft reground, new Big ends, higher compression pistons and valves. High performance valve springs, timing chain, cam bearings and shims. New core plugs, professionally re conditioned carbborettas and fuel pump. Cylinder head skimmed and inlet and exhaust ports polished. New water pump.

3.3 New clutch, master cylinder and slave cylinder. Rebuilt original gear box and differential. New shock absorbers and springs.

3.4 New Kenlow (2 speed) fan, fan guard and rebuilt radiator with new thermostat assembly, water pump and header tank.

3.5 New wiring loom, coil, battery, plugs, plug leads, electronic ignition and horns

3.6 New 4 pot caliper Coopercraft braking system, master cylinder and servo, 6 branch exhaust manifold, stainless steel exhaust, chrome 6 inch wire wheels, 4 Pirelli-215/65 16 tyres and spinners. Also adjustable GAZ dampers all round and fully reconditioned rack and pinion. Uprated Torsion bars (Rob Beere Racing)

3.7 New bonnet, new cowled front lights and chrome. New wing mirrors, door handles and chrome attachments. New automatic seat belts.

3.8 Pure top quality red Toledo leather throughout. (Absolutely no plastic, not even on the cant rails)

The records I have on this car up to 2009 indicate the monies spent, from 1999, by Mr. Maddocks to Falcon Restorations of Bath Somerset.

There are numerous invoices for spare parts, mostly from 'Hex Holdings Limited' a member of the Trade Group and ' Martin Robey' Sales limited.

The car was subsequently bought by Mr. Robert Johnson of Nuneaton where it remained in storage until purchased by myself 2009.

There are bills to prove that at least £30,000 was spent on a complete refurbishment of the body shell and new front sub frame. A purchase of a new Mk 1 bonnet, completed the first part of this extraordinary restoration.

A complete set of invoices are available from the time the car was delivered to Spain to the present day.

The Total cost of the restoration carried out in Spain is in excess of £57,000 bringing the total money spent on the restoration of the car to over £88,000.
